Kimbell Royalty Partners (KRP) is one of the largest owners of oil and natural gas mineral and royalty interests in the United States, with over 17 million gross acres with more than 131,000 wells. Being a mineral royalty interest owner, KRP earns when E&P companies drill in its acreage, and royalty payments are determined based on the commodity price and volume extracted. Despite commodity prices being volatile over the years, KRP has grown its  run-rate average daily production since its IPO in 2017, with current levels near all-time-highs.

Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. (CALM) is the largest  producer and distributor of fresh shell eggs in the United States with annual sales of 1.3 billion dozen eggs (FY 2025), and a 17% market share. CALM maintains a comprehensive production infrastructure, and boasts a shell egg processing capacity of ~8.1 million eggs per hour.

CALM maintains a very transparent variable dividend policy of paying out a third of its net income (computed in compliance with GAAP). This makes the dividend that shareholders receive, directly tied to the company’s profitability, and no dividends are paid during unprofitable quarters. The variable dividend policy and inherent self-correction optimize returns to shareholders through the company’s operating cycles and preserve capital during challenging times. 

We conservatively estimate CALM’s forward yield as 5.3%, based on egg prices being comparable to 2023 levels, which resulted in EPS of $15.5. We believe contributions from recent acquisitions of Echo Lakes and Crepini Foods will reflect in FY 2026, further boosting the net income. However, since those numbers can’t be reasonably projected, we consider anything above the 5% yield to be a welcome addition to our income stream. CALM presents an interesting way to invest in inflationary pressures on America’s most staple food, and could serve as a meaningful “nest egg” in your portfolio.
